Portal keeps your whole friend group's modpack in sync. Share an instance, push an update, and every copy reconciles before launch: mods, configs, even loader versions. Built on Prism Launcher, powered by Modrinth Shared Instances.
Free and open source under GPL-3.0. No ads, no telemetry. And your friends can keep using the Modrinth App.

Portal builds Modrinth’s Shared Instances service directly into the launcher. You host the pack. Everyone else’s copy quietly keeps up.
Turn any instance into a shared pack from its Sharing page. Invite friends by link or by Modrinth username. Pending invites show up right inside the launcher.
Add mods, tweak configs, bump the Minecraft or loader version. When it plays the way you want, push the update once. Modrinth-hosted mods sync by reference, so pushes are fast.
Friends just press Play. Their copy syncs first, and they see a changelog of exactly what changed before the game starts. Mods they added themselves are never touched.
Portal talks to Modrinth’s real Shared Instances service, so it is fully interoperable: friends can join your pack from the official Modrinth App without installing anything new. You install Portal. Nobody else has to do anything.
Same service, same packs. Your friends never have to think about it.
Portal inherits everything great about Prism Launcher, then fixes the hundred small things you notice every day.
See who’s online and what they’re playing. Join a friend’s pack in one click, send invites by username, get notified inside the launcher.
Galleries, download stats, and changelogs right in the mod browser. Know what you’re installing before you install it.
Bad mod update? Revert Last Mod Update restores the previous versions from an automatic snapshot. No re-downloading, no guessing.
Resource and data packs are losslessly optimized on push. Measured on real packs. Identical in game, faster for everyone.
The Servers page shows live ping, MOTD, and player counts without booting the game.
A content-addressed cache means files you already have never download twice. Parallel uploads and an optimized Java GC preset out of the box.
The small stuff adds up.
The Minecraft launcher category is full of malware, and you should be suspicious of every exe on the internet, including this one. So Portal is built to be checked, not believed.
$ gh attestation verify PortalLauncher-Setup-1.0.5.exe \ --repo Portal-Launcher/PortalLauncher ✓ Verification succeeded! # prefer checksums? every release ships those too $ sha256sum -c PortalLauncher-Setup-1.0.5.exe.sha256
Every line of source is on GitHub under GPL-3.0. The binaries are built from it by GitHub Actions, not on someone’s laptop.
Every release ships sha256 checksums. From 1.0.6 onwards, releases carry GitHub build provenance attestations tying each file to its source commit.
Minecraft sign-in is Microsoft’s official OAuth. Modrinth sign-in is Modrinth’s browser OAuth. Portal never sees or stores a password.
No telemetry, no analytics, no ads. The launcher talks to Microsoft, Modrinth, and CurseForge. That’s it.
Honest note: Windows SmartScreen may warn on new releases until code signing reputation builds. That’s exactly why the attestations exist.
Version 1.0.5. Free forever. Your Prism instances carry over automatically.
Every download has a .sha256 checksum next to it on the releases page. Requires a genuine Minecraft account.
Yes. Free and open source under GPL-3.0. No ads, no telemetry, no paid tiers. The only account it uses is the Microsoft account you already sign into Minecraft with, plus an optional Modrinth sign-in for sharing features.
No. Portal uses Modrinth’s official Shared Instances service, so friends can join from the official Modrinth App without installing anything new. Only the host needs Portal.
The source is public, releases are built by GitHub Actions, and every release ships sha256 checksums, with build provenance attestations from 1.0.6 onwards that you can verify with the GitHub CLI. Sign-in is Microsoft’s official OAuth, so Portal never sees your password. SmartScreen may still warn on new releases until signing reputation builds; verify the attestation instead of trusting the popup either way.
Yes, Portal browses and installs both Modrinth and CurseForge content. One caveat when sharing: mods hosted on Modrinth sync by reference instantly, while files from other sources re-upload on each push. The official Modrinth App has the same constraint.
Yes. Portal reads the same data folder as Prism, so instances, accounts, and settings carry over automatically the first time you open it. Your Prism install keeps working too.
Same sharing service underneath, deliberately, so they interoperate. The difference is Prism-grade instance management, CurseForge support, and the quality of life features. If you’re already happy in the Modrinth App, honestly, stay there. Your friends on Portal can still share packs with you.
Yes. Portal requires a genuine Minecraft account through Microsoft’s official login. There is no offline or alternative authentication, by design.
